Hello, I am trying to get some information on a gold coin. The coin was in a box of old coin left to me by my grandfather. I have been able to get information on all but this gold coin. I am enclosing a picture (the best my Camera Can Do). On the head side or bust it has FRANC-IOS-I-D-G-AVSTRIAE IMPERATOR, on the other side is a shield LOD-ILL-REX A-A-1883 HVNGAR-BOHEM-GAL. The only thing I can find out about this coin is that is Austrian. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks Chad

Howdy chanji22 - Welcome to the Forum !!

It's an Austrian gold ducat with the bust of the Emperor Franz Joseph on the obverse and Austrian arms on the reverse. It was struck in .986 gold and weighs 3.5 grams. Value is dependant on the condition of the coin which cannot be determined based on your pic - just a bit fuzzy. But it would range from about $50 - $150.

Don't have my books with me so I can't look up the mintage number, but I can do that when I get home.

Mintage was 409,000 - one of the higher mintage years for the type.

Thank you very much. I thought that it was not a real gold coin. Thanks for you time and help. Chanji
