While on vacation I found a coin shop very close to where I’m staying. Found a bunch of walking liberty half’s that were $10 each. Great but when I saw this I had a very hard time playing it cool. First one I’ve ever seen in the wild. Thoughts on grade? Thanks
Well, your pictures are ridiculously out of focus, so that doesn't help us. Can you try retaking pictures that are in focus? Based on those pics, I'd wager a VF-20 (won't make 30) grade..... but, what sort of coin shop puts a $900 coin in the ten dollar bin? My bigger concern is that, with better pics, we might find that this is actually a counterfeit/fake/altered date (very, very common for this date).
This place was a pawn shop that buys gold and silver. Funny thing is we talked about rare walkers and the shop owner mentioned the early mintmark on obverse and 21. This one slipped by I guess.
I haven't studied this coin, so I'm no expert on this type. But I do have a concern. Here's a 1921-S from NGC. It's typical of the numerous ones I looked at. The fonts, especially in half look different. The spacing in the OP's is wider. The L is much thinner. So is the A. Now this may be typical of this coin type, but I'm curious about this.
It does look good. My guess vf-20. He may have not been paying attention is my thoughts. Being on the west coast and the fact these circulated heavily this could be very legit. From pics I see no issues. Me it’d be taking a trip down the coast from where you are
Nice to know it’s legit. I’m in South Lake Tahoe. Somebody pawned their grandpas coin collection for casino money and the store owner just overlooked it.
I know your primary concern is the COIN. Mine is the PIX. You did a GREAT job on your redo! ... and CONGRATULATIONS!
I would love to: first, have a coin shop close to this "drink-water" town, and second, the coin shop would have coins like the one you found. Thanks for showing us your coin. One of my favorites.
