Picked up this coin at a LCS recently, was my first ancient coin purchase. They specified it was a didrachm from Thourioi, but I can't seem to find any identical coin images online (particularly the waves in the reverse). How can one typically identify the authenticity of ancient coins? Also, how can you determine a fair market value for these coins? It's usually much more straightforward to identify the right price with US coins, which is what I normally collect.

Notice, though, that your coin has less wear/more detail than the CNG coin, so I would expect your coin to sell for more than CNG's. That is, unless I am missing something about the CNG example.

Thanks for the link! How can one identify typical market prices? Scrub through auction listings?
Also, are there any good primer books on ancient coins?

Hill's book is from 1897, so I wouldn't rely on it too much as anything other than a historical artifact!
