. . . . . . start searching for any rare modern die varieties, errors, etc? Another noob going through stuff collected over the generations. Most of the stuff I question are bicentennial quarters, halves, Ike Dollars, SBA's, a few new from the bank penny rolls from 1972 (S I believe) and 1990. A roll of nickels from 1968, maybe 1972, don't remember. The question: Are there any die varieties from the 1972 to roughly 1990 era that I could / should be searching for rather than returning these to the wild . . . . ? Thanks in advance. There seems to be a LOT of this stuff. Z
I have four Crown Royal bags chock full of stuff like your photo. I have resigned myself to dropping handfuls of the coins in my grandkids stockings each Christmas. I have yet to deplete one bag. I need to be here for a lot more Christmases!
If I were in your position, I'd check for 1972 Type 2 Eisenhower dollars and for any Wide Rim 79P SBA dollars.
Sheesh, at least mine is limited to a few rolls of quarters, halves and Ike's. I have half a dozen SBA's, but bags and bags of 90% silver. At least I know what to do with those . . . . . Z
Thanks for the heads up. I will definitely look into those. Not sure what price reference to use for something that modern. Suggestions? Z
I would bet you I have three-four hundred bucks worth of SBA's and golden dollars alone. Back when the golden dollars were released, I would make an almost daily trip to the post office. I would buy a five dollar book of stamps with a twenty and get fifteen golden dollars and SBA's in change. I have since sought help and my addiction is now under control.
Some good advice above! The common stuff (no varieties or anything special), I started spending at coin shops or coin shows. It's the only place you won't get a funny look for paying with an Ike, Kennedy, or SBA Dollar.
