NES coin grading service. Is this grading service trustworthy? My main question is has anyone had a problem with fake or altered coins in their slabs? I buy the coin not the slab. On rare dates I want to be sure about the service that encapsulates them.

Thanks

Sorry, never heard of it. stick with the top 3 if you rely on tpg's for grading or authenticity.

I bought 2 of them. MS65 = AU53 and MS64 = XF cleaned. I paid little enough that I kept one. Maybe that will answer your question

Just picked up a few coins graded by this service. 4 coins were graded MS65 1 looked like it might be AU the other 3 were VG at best. This grading service is a joke.

Good advice above.

If you can pay little $$ for their MS coins then beware that they may not be MS and pay accordingly.

Yep.

Which means you grade it yourself. The number on the slab means nothing.

I'll tell you something that I have never seen, an accurately graded, problem-free valuable coin in one of these nonsense slabs. MS62 is at least MS65, cleaned XF is suddenly MS63, etc etc.

well I went to their site, and seem's they only grade for Ebay sellers hmmm..
I tried to send emails to 2 different addresses..both came back..their bogus!
and I fell for the ms 70 slab trick...but ya gotta laugh at your own foolishness some times....my old saying "what's it gonna matter to ya in a hundred years"

Amazingly, they actually have a site. I'm surprised. Here it is; go check it out for yourself...http://numismaticevaluationservice.com/index.html

No, they "offer" to grade for anyone. The "E-Bay only" thing is an offer to sell pre-graded coins ! Hmmmmmmmmm....

It's obvious what's happening here. This is clearly bogus.

They overgrade, big time. They would give this an MS 66, maybe they'd bump it up to a 67 because of the eye appeal.

Here's an excerpt from the NES website,

"NES is a coin grading company with the highest standards of quality and integrity. We handle coins with the utmost care and attention. We are a coin grading service specializing in proof coins, uncirculated coins and circulated coins. At NES our graded coins come in special protective cases, with a serial number and holographic security tag."

Now here's a bit from SGS's site,

Anyone else notice a similarity?

NES Graded MS69 FBL 1963 D Franklin 50C

Well I guess nothing beats experience like experience. It would have been nice to have known about this site BEFORE I bought the coin.

After purchase and delivery I gave it a close examination (I use a microscope) and first of all, even though it was a 1963 D Franklin 50C NES MS69 FBL, I was a bit skeptical because to get an MS69 it has to be some top grade stuff. Only thing higher that I know of is MS70 and I have NEVER actually seen a coin of that grade.

The coin is nice but there are four triangular shaped indentations on Benny's cheek (I have seen this same mark on some Kennedy coins) and several minute scratches on both sides. The coin appears to have been cleaned at one time in it's history, judging from the mild patina that only shows up around the lettering and the rim.

I never would have graded this coin an MS69 even though I am not a professional grader, MS60 at best.

Last of all, the case appears to have been tampered with going by the minute chips in the case itself where it locks together, again not quite visible to the naked eye.

Thanks for listening and I will refer to CoinTalk more often in the future. I just registered today after finding this thread on a Google Search.

I posted a response to this thread earlier. Can't seem to find it.
Anyway, I went to the wesite offered up by .900Fine and it seems as though their email service is defunct.
I'll try their phone number tomorrow.
Guess what, I just dialed it and it is disconnected.
