Hi all. While there are many coins with two dates, the years are mostly 25, 50, or 100 years apart, to commemorate an anniversary. I think it's less common for the two years to be consecutive. I have 3 coins like that. I thought it would be neat to try to find and collect more. If you know of any others, would appreciate your help. Here are my three. 1999-2000 Great Britain £5, marking the shift of the millennium. 1933-1934 Vatican City 50 Centesimi, celebrating the Jubilee. 2007-2008 Australia $1. (I have no idea why this one was issued.) I tried searching on the net, but got wacky results. If you can think of more (other than different denominations from the Vatican's Jubilee), please share. Thanks all!
@JeffC the last coin has to do with the timing of the Perth Mint Lunars. They decided to begin Lunar series 2 in 2008 but still had not finished Lunar series 1. So several coins were issued in 2007 To represent the 2008-2010 Lunars for series 1. https://www.thesilverforum.com/topic/1215-lunar-tiger-im-confused/ “A Unique Closing to the Lunar Series Silver Coins ...To bring everyone up to speed, The Perth Mint began production of the gold Lunar Series coins in 1996 with the year of the Rat, but did not produce silver Lunar Series coins until 1999, with the year of the Rabbit. Now, The Mint is going to close the Series this summer, with the last day of ordering being June 25, 2007. So that collectors of the silver Lunar Series coins can have all twelve years of coins, The Mint is going to produce those missing three years, the 1996 Rats, the 1997 Oxen and the 1998 Tigers after taking final orders. The coins will be consistent with the other nine coins already minted, with one slight difference. The nine already minted carry their coinciding Lunar Calendar dates on the reverse, and so will the three yet to be produced. However, the obverses of the three coins will have 2007 on them. The Mint will produce seven sizes of silver coins for the three years.“ And some more info here: https://agaunews.com/portfolio-items/perth-mint-lunar-series-i/
I believe there are a few others that are 1999-2000 for the millennium. One is a Canadian Maple Leaf, like in the link below: https://coinscatalog.net/canada/coin-1-oz-silver-5-dollars-maple-leaf-km-363-silver-bullion-coins
Mystery solved! Thanks. I was puzzled by the 2 dates, especially since 2007 was not the Year of the Rat. And thanks also for the other millenium themed coins.
Thanks. Archangel Michael sheathing his sword. I think you'll like a lot of the old Italian and French coins. I particularly also like this 2-Lire piece from 1916.
Some 1935 Boone commemoratives also show 1934 as part of the inscription, as that was added late in 1935.
I just found another celebrating the millennium from Malawi: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces38733.html
