(But if you do, I hope you have private insurance. Gold is only covered if sent registered. (Although that may be only for bullion and older collectible coins MAY still be covered, but you may have to fight it out with the PO) You probably can't because it is so rare it probably hasn't happened. Registered mail going missing nationwide annually can usually be counted on the fingers of one hand. The number coins going missing sent by priority or priority express is orders of magnitude greater.
Yes Conder101, I do have a private insurance. And, knowing your reputation for being correct I will stand corrected on the Registered Mail losses. Sorry for that gaffe but it 'appeared' to me a lot of people were complaining, on the CU Board. Thanks for straightening me out and have a good day today.
I'm not always correct so it is good to question me sometimes. Don't just accept what I say blindly. There are often a lot of complaints about lost and stolen items from mailed packages, but they usually don't say how it was shipped and when you actually question them about it it turns out to be Priority of some type. Not a whole lot of people send Registered because they want it there or back FAST. And a lot of complaints about missing Registered mail eventually just turn out to be very slow delivery and Registered mails poor record of up to date on line tracking. That's the thing about Registered it may be slow but it DOES show up. As Collecting Nut mentioned everytime it changes hands it has to be signed for, and although that every time tracking doesn't show up online the Post Office CAN track it. And the last person who signed for the package is held responsible for it. It can mean the loss of their job, their pension, fines, possibly prison time. NO ONE want to be the last name on the tracking for a missing Registered mail package so they are very careful to make sure they get the next persons signature.
Okay, and thanks very much for clearing up a few questions for me. I am fortunate that I do not have to ship anymore gold coins (that I know about). I hope, during these times, that you stay well. Again, thanks for your help and, right or wrong, I have learned you are a person one can depend upon for a honest answer.
