So I have been trying to figure out the silver content of a 1967 Canadian mackerel dime and one site says 50% another say 80% and then I came across one that says Canada was in a transitional period of changing coins between the two. The site also says there is no visible way of telling the difference. I have a handful of mackerel dimes and the weight is between 2.2 and 2.5 grams so I have no clue on silver value. Besides weight and an RF scanner is there a way to tell the difference? If one is 80% v/s 50% is it more valuable than the other besides silver content "AKA variety" or is it a lost cause and just take it as it is that it has silver.
Thanks Kentucky. That post was a mess but I did however find that the 50% weigh more towards the 2.2 grams spectrum.
