I am having trouble with this one. The bust looks like Maximus or Maximinus, but I can't find any matches. Obv: -CMAN-- or --CMAH--. Bare head right Rev: Seated deity facing left. Illegible legend. Diam: 22mm The legend combination -CMA- doesn't fit Maximus or Maximinus, but the head really looks like of the two.
It could be Maximianus, he has some with legend IMP C M A MAXIMIANVS, the first M A drove me nuts as you're thinking that's the start of the name:
I don't think it can be Maximian. The coin looks like a 3rd-century provincial. The problem is that obverse portraits vary widely on provincials. So you might also consider Macrinus, or even Aemelian. Do you see any letters that look like they might be Greek?
Yeah there doesn't seem to be any imperial types with that "C M A" legend component and a deity seated.
Thank for all your help. Could be a Macrinus, but I'll having a tough time. I don't necessarily see any Greek, but I do see what appears to be BACO on the reverse, which dones't really help either. RIP
Now I see C M ANT, so somebody with Antoninus in his name. Matches somewhat with Elagabalus but looks more like Sev Alex's head shape
I neglected to notice the centration dimples. the coin is definitely a provincial. If you don't see any Greek letters, then you might start with Dueltum. http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/greece/thrace/deultum/t.html http://www.moushmov.com/deultum.html
