to the forum... As you may know from 1982 on the cent was made of zinc and plated with copper. Sometime the plating would split causing corrision to start. Does your coin look like that may be possible?
No, I do not detect any split. It looks like the 8 got stamped, but the metal "overflowed" somehow, and filled in the lines.
