Ok where to start. I work At a liquor store in an inner city.and get about 200 to 400 dollars in coins a night. My interest in coins just started when a guy spent a 1952 Franklin Half dollar on a 2.00 bottle of R&R.Along with a 1957 silver certificate and 3 1950,s quarter. They all sounded like steel when I threw them in the change drawer. So Itook them out and kept them.I see lots of old coins evernight and never thought about keeping them.Untill now My question is should I start colecting 1 type coin first or just keep any coin from a certain date on?Like anything below 1960.
Welcome. For quarters, halfs, and dimes any 1964 or older is sliver, save it. Kennedy halfs 1965-1969 are 40% silver and should be saved. For pennies most people save wheaties, but some save pre 1982 for the copper content. don't forget valuable errors and varieties. http://coins.about.com/b/2006/07/21/top-10-most-valuable-us-coins-found-in-pocket-change.htm Harry
