I assume your talking about the native american $1 coins do out next year? If so, yes they will circulate.
Quote: "If so, yes they will circulate." The same way Presidential and Sacajawea dollars circulate now? Few, and far between? Or do you mean they will have "circulation', "mint set" and "proof set" types of these coins?
I know that Sacajawea 2000-2001 have circulated: have any of the other years (like 2002-present) circulated for "general commerce" (I think HSN uses:if that is more understandable)
No sac. Dollars were struck for circulation from 2002-2006. However sac. dollars were struck for circulation in 2007 along with the then new presidential dollars. Sacagawea dollars were struck for collectors only in 2008.
No, the law that authorized th President dollars required them to strike 2007 Sacs for circulation but they kept delaying producing them until late in the year and then when the legislation was passed that moved IGWT from the edge of the 2009 President dollars was passed it included language that eliminated the mints obligation to strike the 2007 circulation Sacs. So no Sacs were struck for circulation in 2007. Mint sets, direct sale rolls and direct sale mint bags only. Another consequence of the IGWT law was it remove the authorization to strike the 2008 Sacs. But the mint did not realize this untill they had already struck the coins and offered them for sale. They had to go back the Congress and get special legislation to allow them to produce the coins. I would expect that they will make thm for circulation in 2009, they will flop and the 2010 an later coins will once again be for sale to collectors only. That will give them a problem though since the law requires them to make considerably more that they will be able to direct sell.
I wonder with the economy tanking like it is how the mint will continue to crank out all this poorly designed NCLT garbage?
Sac $ circulate from the stamp machine at the post office to my collection. SBA's and President's too. They aren't uncirculated by any stretch of the imagination. So... somebody must be spending them. Besides the kid buying candy with the stash in mom and dad's drawer I mean.
But what about when the post office finishes their phaseout of the stamp machines? (They are supposed to all be gone within about another year.)
I would like to know where all these millions of "metal" dollars have gone ,since 1979 SBA thru Presidential 2008 Dollars, considering very few spend them or like them.
The guy at the seven eleven usually has a few. I'll get them when it's no too busy. I'm willing to bet they are in vaults at the Treasury waiting to be distributed by the GSA in about 85 years.
Most of those that have actually made it into circulation are in the same place that all the billions and billions of cents are.
I try to put a roll or two into circulation every time a new type comes out, usually leaving them for tips. I still get strange looks from some cashiers when I spend them, but not as much, now.
