my dad just bought a coin for me. I think it might be conmemorative. In the front it has a large star with different dates around the star: 1922, 1958, 11 k, and 2004. On the back it has on eagle and on the rimit says federal reserve bank of dallas. houston branch. the eagle is perched on a shield that has 11k enscribed on it. does anyone know the story of this coin?
I can't really tell you much except that the new FRB, Dallas was opened in 2004 and it replaced a building that was built in 1958. The date 1922 doesn't seem to have any particular significance that I can find. Likewise the 11K. Your coin is probably a token given out or sold when the new building opened. There is a public affairs email where you might get some first-hand info Dal.CommunityAffairs@dal.frb.org
Scan it... or snap a pic of it with your camera on macro, flash off, preferably on a windowsill on a rag in natural sunlight.
Can't help with the 1922 date, but the 11K refers to the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank number and letter. There are 12 Federal Reserve branch banks and Dallas is #11. It is represented on paper currency using the 11th letter of the alphabet K. And this is not a coin or token, it is a medal of some kind, probably a souvenir medal.
