So I picked up this new Victory from a trusted seller on ebay the other day. When it arrived, I checked out his attribution and I don't believe it to be correct. He has it attributed as: AE30 of Stobi, Macedon M AVR ANTONINVS, laureate and curiassed bust right, seen from behind Victory advancing left, holding wreath and palm Moushmov 6552; AMNG 15 which is this coin: HOWEVER, this coin is listed as an AE22 and is definitely NOT my coin. With it being 30mm and 10.62g, I believe it is a Tetrassarion but I can't find a good match anywhere. The obverse, I can make out MAV on the obverse and looks to be M(VN)IC(P) STOBENSI on the reverse.
It's certainly Caracalla from Stobi. I've seen these in the 24mm up to the low 30mm's in diameter and there are a whole lot of different reverse legend variations from the shortest MVN STOB to the longer version of MVNICIP STOBENSIVM
I thought it was pretty interesting and I love anything with Nike/Victory so I threw a lowball bid on it not expecting to win. Glad I did though. Now I've got provincials with Nike reverses from Septimius Severus, Julia Domna, Caracalla, and Elagabalus. Just need a few more to complete the whole Severan dynasty
Here's one from Stobi featuring that creep's mama: Julia Domna AD 193-211 Roman provincial AE 25 Macedon, Stobi, AD 193-211 9.3 gm, 25.4 mm Obv: IVLIA AVGVST, bare-headed and draped bust, r. Rev: MVNI STOBE, Victory advancing l., holding wreath; below, wheel and serpent. Refs: Moushmov 6548; Similar to BMC 104, 8.
Nice one! Here's my mom and dad. She from Stobi, he from Thessalonica. Also, I take back what I said earlier about having an Elegabalus. I do not. wompwomp
