I have often thought how nice it would be if the United States decided to alter the design of each of our coins and remake the "best" design for each denomination. So, I thought it would be fun to think about this. Let's imagine that the government wanted to begin minting a cent design...beginning in 2010 and using a design that is considered the "best." It will be minted on a standard 2.5g zinc/copper planchet just like the current cent is (no matter what design is chosen). But, to determine the "best" design...they go the democratic route and ask for a popular vote. So, what design would you vote for? To kick things off, I'll answer my own question. I would vote for the Indian Head Cent. It would be a close vote for me...between that and the Draped Bust, but I would vote Indian Head. How about you?
I thought I voted. I guess it didn't register because after I voted I got the "Page not found" thing. I'll vote again now.
The flying eagle sent that's the only coin that has the eagle on the reverse out of all the coins and a nice design. Jazzcoins joe:whistle:
I don't know if they're still minting Lincoln memorial cents. 2009 is the bicentennial and they're going to have the the commem reverses followed by a completely new reverse in '10.
I do too, I must admit...I'm a bit surprised by some of the results. I was hoping this would be interesting, maybe I'll do this weekly for the different denominations and find out what CT thinks all our coins should be.
I agree. I love the flying eagle design...not only is it simple and meaningful, but very unique. There really isn't another coin like it that ever circulated. As much as I love the Indian Head, this is a wonderful coin as well.
