I bought this last night on the David Lawrence auction. If you want to guess at the grade, then don’t go to the DLRC website because that would be cheating.... The DLRC photo looked a little washed out so the coin may be a little darker than depicted. This photo posted here at CT was just quick-fixed using Adobe software. The coin is a large date example with what looks like a significant die crack at about 4:30. Price & TPG opinion shouldn’t matter much when you like a coin. However, I thought this one was priced fine & had a TPG opinion that was agreeable. What would you grade it? Very best regards, collect89
I would grade this coin AU53 or AU55. It's got some wear on the high points and a bit too rough looking to go AU58 I think. It's certainly a nice looking coin. I hope you did well on the price!
There certainly looks to be some wear on the knees and at the top of the shield, AU-55 with attractive original toning?
Yeh, -55 or -58. The orange toning makes me nervous. I immediately thought "iron oxide". But if it's already slabbed by a major TPG, then it's probably okay (and not iron oxide).
AU-58 I'd say. I believe I see wear on the leg on the obverse, and on the tips of the leaves on the reverse. I think it's a nice coin, congrats. :thumb: Phoenix
I see some rub on the leg and shield area, but I would also say AU-58 or MS. Luster would be an important factor. Jim
Here is my grade. Eye Appeal A- Fields B Strike B+ Now for that Sheldon dudes opinion. : ) A strong AU. I want to say a 58.
