Should the Brass 1944-1946 "Shell Casing" Cents be considered a different type since their composition (.950 Cu, .050 Zn) is different from the Bronze pre-1943 and post-1946 Cents (.950 Cu, .050 Sn and Zn)?

And if they are different, what about the 1962-82s when the composition changed from Bronze back to Brass?

For those who say that a simple change in composition shouldn't be considered a different type, what about the 1943 change to zinc coated steel, or the 1982 change to copper coated zinc? And the change in the Kennedy halves from 90% silver to 40%?

Just trying to figure how detailed (anal) I should be on my type set.:goofer:

I don't personally think they are different, but the Red Book does separate them. Regardless of all that, they are cheep enough, I would add them just because it is much easier to remove them than to add them.

I, personally, consider them separate types, although minor. As rlm said, it is real easy to save an example of each. Besides, it looks nice to have a "lot of types" in my coin album.

    Strictly your choice.
One nice part about coin collection, you can set your own standards.

I only collect US coins (my choice).
I don't collect coins (except for state quarters) dated after 1964 (my choice).
As for varieties, I only collect well recognized ones (my choice).
    Etc.
    You get the idea.
