Depends on the coin, clean a high grade 1889CC and it will go from $300,000 to $10,000 in the blink of an eye.

    Do NOT clean your coins!

Dipping will drop the value at least 50% depending upon how strongly and how many times.
Abrasive cleaning will drop the value at least 80-90%. Basically it would turn a $100 coin into bullion.

Exactly, it is a significant drop in value. There are some who believe that there isn't too little you can pay for a problem coin...and when you clean a coin it becomes a problem coin.

This are some forms of proper cleaning that doesn't hurt the value...but you must know exactly what you are doing or you will ruin the coin..
