It's always nice to add new silver greeks & have a break from Romans & Medievals. THESSALY, Pharsalos. Late 5th-mid 4th century BC AR Drachm O: Helmeted head of Athena right. R: Δ to left / Φ A P [retrograde Σ], Thessalian cavalryman on horse rearing right, holding lagobolon. 5.59g 19mm Lavva 138 (V65/R78); cf. BCD Thessaly II 644; HGC 4, 626 Lokris Opuntii (369 - 338 B.C.) AR Hemidrachm O: Wreathed head of Persephone right. R: Ajax advancing r., nude but for crested helmet, brandishing dagger and shield; kantharos between his legs. 2.6g 16mm BCD Lokris 98; SNG Copenhagen 50.
My condolences on the loss of your mother. That is always heartbreaking. Those are lovely coins. I like the Lokris Opuntii.

^Thank you. I was notified this morning on forvm that my Pharsalos is attributed wrong & I guess a bit special because it's signed by the engraver, which would be my first ancient to be so. Pretty cool. So the attribution is now: THESSALY, Pharsalos. Late 5th-mid 4th century BC AR Drachm O: Helmeted head of Athena right, sphinx on bowl; T/Θ behind neck guard R: Warrior on horseback right, wearing petasos, holding mace overhead; T in exergue; all within incuse square. 5.59g 19mm Lavva 144 (V68/R84); BCD Thessaly II 645. You can just make out the sphinx head on the helmet in the bright area of the obverse. Even humble ancients can turn to a surprise, that's why I appreciate comments over likes or generally being ignored thread wise. You never know who may help or point something out.

So sorry for your loss. The style of Pharsalos is particularly beautiful, and you could even get it slabbed as "Full Crest"!
Serious condolences, Mat. Congratulations on the coins, and the pretty momentous reattribution. ...Aside from the price range, the hemiobol-diobol range just has its own charm. Almost the die-engraving equivalent of haiku.

These are both pretty awesome @Mat. I love the crested helmet on Athena and Ajax on any coin makes it pretty sweet.
I love affordable Greek silver! Those look nice and aren't microscopic. (Though the teeny-tinies have their charm, too.) I particularly like that Pharsalos, which is well worn but handsome.
