I see this coin has started quite a stir in world coin collectors circle. Must get one before they get hoarded.:hatch:
Warning - that 4 euro coin is a cheap imitation. The actual piece has a face value of 5 euro. Christian
I tried to give an extensive write up on the coin which I hope people read and find useful. Also see this http://pythonide.blogspot.com/2008/10/how-to-make-money-with-free-software.html
Oh, I get it. Its from a ground up perspective. A curious concept, but I'm not a fan of the execution. Kidromeo - you can have mine!
I think whoever designed that one spent a little too much time at a local coffee shop. Cool coin & thanks for sharing...Mike
Long live Emperor Ardatirion:bow:. You really know how to buy someone's loyalty unlike exiled and defeated King Spock:hammer:
Ruben: Very nice job of imaging the coin, I have to opin that the images impress me more than the design of the coin though. But the Dutch are definitely in a league of their own with coin design though.
I agree with you. I needs a bigger coin. It would very nice on a 1 ounce silver coin but they wanted, I think, to keep the silver less than 5 euros because they put them into circulation at costs and without a premium. The design also needed, I think, to be deeper. I don't know how they minted that so lightly. It is almost etched my a holographic image. Ruben
I collect the Dutch Euro commems myself, don't ask, because I don't really know why. They are not always pretty - in fact quite an unfortunate few of them are anything but pretty. But they are unique. Curiously the paper money that they had pre-Euro was also very uniquely Dutch, but there actually were some pretty ones. But I like them all, pretty and otherwise.
As for the size of these coins, I think it is about right. Actually this Architecture silver piece is even bigger than the €5 from previous years - those had a diameter of 29 mm while this one has 33 mm. Note that the Architecture base metal piece that is (was) available at face is still 29 mm. Will be interesting to see what they will do about "royal" themes from now on. So far, collector coins that dealt with the queen, her family etc. have been €10 pieces ... 33 mm in size. Christian
This design was just too detailed for the size coin though. Of course, everyone is entitle to an opinion but an ounce for silver isn't really an accident. It was a good size for silver transactions in a human sense. But more importantly, it gives more space for a design and that design is complex and shallow. Now granted the American Eagle Comem half, which is clad, is also complex , and perhaps about the some size, but it is not as delicate of a design. Look how much better my photo's, blow up, look compared to the coin itself. Ruben
