Found this beautiful coin today! I'm still learning so honestly, I didn't even know this coun existed!! I'm sure all you guys did tho! Just wanted to share it!!
It was the last issue of the Early Commemoratives coins. It's the Carver/Washington commemorative. Yours is a 1952 (I don't see a mint mark). The design was struck from 1951 through 1954 by all 3 Mints. Commemorative coins were not struck again until the 1982 George Washington 250th Anniversary of Birth.
Mint mark should be right above the C at the bottom of the reverse. I don't see anything. This and the Booker T. Washington are the most affordable "classic" commemorative halves. Wonder if anyone has found any roll hunting?
Per Redbook...."Money obtained from the sale of these commemoratives was to be used to 'oppose the spread of Communism among Negroes in the interest of national defense'."
If I look real close it looks as if there was a D at some point but it is badly worn. Also I think it must have been one with the States shown in the reverse, not USA and it's been really worn
OMGOSH!!!!! I just realized I spelt coun instead of coin!!!! This happens to me often but I usually catch it!! I pray to God no one thinks I was referring to anyone as a coun!!! I've got to try to edit it!!!!! I'm mortified!!
Can you please tell me how I might edit what I posted?? I accidentally said coun instead of coin!! I usually catch it but I didn't this time!!! I mortified someone will think I'm being racist!!!!
Click on your post to open it and then click on edit. I think you have a little time to edit a post, not sure how much though
OK, what I did is to click on "Report" below the post. This goes to a moderator who has more powers to do stuff than us mere members, asking them to change the word. I don't think anyone takes offence.
