So you know all about United States Commemorative Coins! Do you know there are two main different types of commemorative Coins encompasssing Quarters, Halves (silver, clad and nickel), silver, clad, nickel and gold Dollars, Gold Two and one-half Dollars and Five Dollar Gold Coins? 1. Circulation Commemorative Coins 2. Non Circulation Commemorative Coins Circulation Coins or Business Strike Coins includes Lincoln Cents, Jefferson Nickels, Roosevelt Dimes, Washington Quarters, Franklin Half Dollars, Kennedy Half Dollars, Eisenhower Dollars, Susan B. Anthony Dollars, Sacagawea Dollars, Presidential Dollars and, yes, some of those State Quarters. Non Circulation Commemorative Coins includes those coins which were produced to honor an event, person, place or thing and struck only for coin collectors. Other Non Circulation Commemorative Coins were struck as souvenirs. Still, others were minted to raise funds for specific projects (usually carrying the annotation "Memorial" in their description). Hey Clinker, great post. You should add that some of those older commem's sometimes wound up in circulation as there were times when the mint didn't sell out of a particular issue and they wound up distributing the coins to banks.
