Hi, does anyone know if PCGS used the CAM designation on Proof coins when they were using the Old Green Holders? I am looking at a coin in an OGH marked PCGS PR61, I'm wondering if that means it didn't meet their PR61CAM criteria, or did they not use the CAM description at the time of those holders? thanks

Can't help you. I paid attention to the slabs themselves not the grades or grades assigned. They didn't interest me.

What coin type(s) are you talking about? I don't know the full specifics, but I do know that they used the CAM designation on far fewer series in the olden days before the millennium and the Registry and all that (the OGH era, in other words). Maybe only on Franklin halves and moderns? Dunno.

Case in point: this 1868 proof 2c piece. It's not OGH, but it was holdered in the early 2000s. When I owned it around '03 or '04 or so, I was of the opinion that it would be worthy of the CAM designation if such had been available at the time (and I'm pretty sure it wasn't).

Nowadays something like this, if it made the grade, would be labeled "PCGS PR64 RD CAM".

I never had the opportunity to find out whether they'd CAM this one or not, since I sold it long ago. Alas, all I have left of it are some pretty bad and/or tiny pictures, including one I used to use as an avatar.

I don’t think they designated them cam at first.
