Hey ya'll I know that a few months ago a few members would post photos and let the rest of the members guess the grade...well...nobody has done that for awhile so here is one... What would you grade this-- I just got this from Rick Tomaska!! Speedy
As everyone usually states, its difficult to judge from pictures alone. I would give the coin a 68 (proof of course). One might ask why I wouldn't add a DC or even a C to it. If you look carefully at the bell on the reverse, you can see that there is a region missing the necessary frost. Since both the obverse and reverse require fully frosted devices to be consdiered C, this would disqualify it. That's the technical version. Personally, this is a coin that I would really like to have in my collection. It displays enough "frosting" for my taste (too much frosting always upsets my stomach anyway), and the coin shows no major errors, marks, or spots. Hmmm... maybe it should get a 69. Anyway, this is a very desirable coin and is candy for the eyes. Steve
Beautiful coin speedy! Almost a perfect one- from the pic, I'd say pf 68, and obverse looks UCAM to me. Read above comments about reverse and cameo designation and will have to check... Don Even if not meeting Cam criteria on reverse, it'd rate a star from NGC- are you submitting it? In applying star designations to applicable proof coins, all of the above criteria apply for toned coins. Untoned coins, however, must meet one of the additional criteria outlined below to qualify: - They display cameo or ultra cameo contrast on the obverse only. Here's a frankie reverse which may look similar to yours (hard to judge frosting without coin in hand) which got NGC UCAM. Many thought it would not cross over at PCGS http://forums.collectors.com/attachments\/62PF76_Obv.jpg
It is in a NGC slab...and I'll try to post the grade tonight...I'll see if anybody eles wants to guess. Speedy
Right now it is in a NGC PF66CAMEO holder. This is replacing a 1962 NGC PF66 one that has a slight "film" over it. I don't have the coin in hand so I can't say if I agree with the grade. I have a 1962 PF Franklin at ANACS right now and I'm thinking (hoping) for a PF66CAMEO too---I'm sure it will get CAMEO. SFDukie--what did that coin grade?? It sure is a nice one. Speedy
I got the coin today....it looks just as good if not better than the photos....the bell shows better and it has full CAMEO.... All in all....I like it alot!!! Speedy
Well---I'm one that doesn't think there is any such thing as a MS/PF 70 coin so I would disagree! Speedy
