Wife's father left her a 1994 silver penny so shiny it hurt's to look at will not stick too magnet who is the coin dealer you would recommend for professional opinion near Ocala Florida
Did you read any of the reasons given as to why? It's most likely plated which means it is post mint damage.
Please start you own threads, with photos. Standard photo information for new members: You should always post FULL IMAGE photos (after you upload your photo, two buttons appear: Thumbnail and Full Image, click Full Image and your photo appears full size on your post and is easily enlarged by clicking on it. Always show both the obverse and reverse, even if your question is just about one side. Members can often give more valuable information having both sides to evaluate. Crop out superfluous background so just the coin shows, and post photos with correct orientation so members don't have to turn their computer in some awkward fashion to view it properly. Add close ups of areas you have questions about and make your questions as definitive as possible so we know what you are asking for. And try to have the best lighting possible to show the most favorable photo of the coin. Hope this helps in the future. Good luck.
Just realized this is an old post. Darn, I'm usually good at looking at the date of the original post, but slipped up on this one. Getting old isn't as fun as some people think. LOL
Yes it was an old post, but it was brought back to life by john1397 and your advice was good for him.
I also have a very shiny 1994 silver looking penny. I've seen comments where people say it must have been stripped due to a science projects but that's absolutely not the case with this. It is so shiny it looks like it could be plated as well but mine does not have a mint mark. I recently got it in a coin collection that I inherited
Welcome to CT. Photos would help us folks to make a decision, but in all probability it has been plated. If you say your coin does not have a mintmark then why title your post 1994 D?
The person you quoted and responded to is no longer on CoinTalk. The answer has been given by the other members on what it could be. You also have an altered coin. Plated. Platiado.
