First, I wholeheartedly agree with @Ocatarinetabellatchitchix. An additional benefit: the $29.99 is a small investment for the money I have saved when advice on CT has stopped me from making an unwise purchase. @Alwin, I believe it is simply a choice between paying monthly or saving $31 by paying an annual donation. If Peter and company add French, then I want it in Norwegian, too . Steve
The difference is 30$/year...
(hopefully expressed reasonably )
C'mon @Stevearino, @Ocatarinetabellatchitchix , and @Sulla80 , wait! If we get Norwegian and French: I want Suomi and Gaelic (my ancestry), as well as Cymraic (compulsory Welsh my kids had to learn).
I don't believe anyone of us have an idea of what it cost to keep alive a site like Cointalk . @Peter T Davis could answer this question, but I know that for Coinproject it's 200$ per month to operate and 1,000 per month in programming development costs... For FORVM, it was 675$ a month for the hosting bills only...so our little 29$ could certainly help a lot.
Great @Valentinian! I just now did the support thing. I think is a good thing to support since this forum allowes me a great experience in return.
Our server monthly cost is right in the middle of those two. There are various other costs, the biggest ones are when something goes wrong. I do have a regular server guy, Matt W, he's expensive but does great work and is very good with the forum software we're using. I pay him his hourly rate, but that's only when something comes up (usually meaning I broke something, Doug's favorite thing lol). I have hired programmers at times too, to add customized features to the forum, some of which have worked out really well, some not, usually runs anywhere from a few hundred bucks to a few thousand bucks depending on how much time is involved. Mostly, it's a labor of love, and it's so awesome that so many members care enough about the community to become supporters, it's all of you that make this worth doing.
So what's not to like about 'supporting'? Lengthen the short arms digging into those deep pockets guys.......
Alright. My supportership expires on the 10th, I see, having just consulted My Account. I would like to renew ahead of time, just so there’s no gap. And to do it now, while I’m thinking about it. But I couldn’t find any way to do so. Can anyone tell me how?
Ya gotta wait till you're expired.........like a library card. At least, that's always been my experience.
Just click on your name on the Coin Talk top navigation bar then click on “Account Upgrades” in the right column of the Profile Page menu.
Hi all, Believe it or not, I’ve been a part of this site for a year or so without ever reading enough to know about support! Who knew it was possible!? So, I just bought a green banner because my virtual friends reminded me that a site like this does not sustain itself. I owe another bit of education to @jamesicus whose reminder made me aware I could show my support. Heck, 0.12 cents a day I could loose in the sofa and never be as educated and entertained as I’ve been here. - Broucheion
I like being a supporter, maybe so I don't feel like a freeloader? I also support the site zeno.ru. Those guys are amazing, can read archaic scripts and identify very strange ancient coins. They have helped me identify and organize my small (300+) collection of South Asian and Silk Roads coins. Some other CT guys I know are members of zeno also. It is a great family we have here!
Dette er jo forbilledlig norsk, @Sulla80 / Google Translate There is already a coin forum in Norwegian for @Stevearino . It’s called Samlerforum, and had its hay day 10 years ago. Very slow now, though. Only a couple of posts per month. Everybody fled to facebook, which is incomprehensible. The old forum layouts work far better than fb. I’m not even on facebook anymore (I think that’s kinda modern.)
Thank you, @svessien. I was unaware of this. "Something" is better than "nothing." Or, if you prefer, "Noe er bedre enn ingenting." Steve
