Sure looks like it, it's also a serious stretch calling that slider VF20 coin EF, IMO that's market based grading going a bit far. But that's just my humble opinion... 18/7-Ss are tough coins, but that one isn't very nice. If you are thinking of buying one save your shekels for a nice one.
I wasn't thinking of buying it but is drives me crazy. That coin looks like a brillo pad was used on it and they want 10Grand for it. Ruben
Not quite - $5600. The coin got the grade because of its rarity. IMO the grade assigned is a joke, beyond a joke. It would barely make G6.
They want $5600 for it ANACS isn't the only grader that hires Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles to slab big $ SLQs it seems.. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_ite..._No=1312&ic=ViewItemArchives-LiveMatchesPromo
I was thinking about the price for this one. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=68115&Lot_No=65105#Photo This makes me wonder though. If this was raw, would I see that as improperly cleaned? Ruben
First ones that jumped out at me from a quick glance were above the Eagle's tail and a bunch on the obverse. What's a shame is that, from a quick glance, that's a retty well struck example, and would otherwise be a nice one to have. IMO, there's no reason whatsoever to buy that coin, if you can spend $10k on a coin you can save up the extra $5-7k that a nice one costs or buy a stunning AU one.
I can't believe I am saying this, but that coin is rather attractive for a cleaned example. Improperly cleaned, YES, harshly cleaned, NO. I think that price is a fair price for that coin given it's eye appeal and rarity. All things being equal, I would rather have this. Anaconda sold this last year for $7-$8K range.
$7-8k? meh... $14,950 bought this... MS63 FH http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1117&Lot_No=724&src=pr
wow, I thought that ANACS was one of the more reliable graders. Never could have imagined them grading more then a few points off, but 34? Incredible what people will buy these days. This should have been sold on eBay. It would go for some very serious cash there, with all of the uneducated buyers who flock to eBay, hoping to strike it rich, based on what the holder says it is, and not th e actual grade that a trained numismatist would assign.
Out of all the coins listed, I would prefer to have the rainbow toned 16 that Leheigh posted. Very good eye appeal on that coin IMO. The MS-60 coin has nice details and luster, but is just too blast white for my taste in classical coins regardless of whether its been cleaned. I agree that the XF-40 that was posted is a joke. A very mean one. No where close to an XF by any standard. It almost makes me wonder if it was a fake slab, or one that was altered with a different coin, although I will say that the older anacs slabbed coins seem a lot more lenient IMO than the newer ones.
That's one of the easy places to see them, but they are all over the coin if you look close. Turn a coin like that in the light and they will jump out at you.
"Harshly cleaned?" In my opinion, it has been cleaned and has since retoned in a hazy way. "Harshly" is rather subjective, and I'll let you decide or not to add that adjective, but I would suggest that its condition explains why it is in an ANACS holder -- as NGC/PCGS would likely bag it. All IMHO & respectfully submitted....Mike
Mike - the one Ruben was asking about being harshly cleaned is in an NCS slab. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=68115&Lot_No=65105#Photo
The first one is in the ANACS holder and that one is no doubt harshly cleaned. They are scrubbing or whizzing lines on the devices, like the series of lines along the leg leg (her right leg). That coin was scrubbed like a frying pan at a campfire. The second one, that one scares me because I'm not certain I would identify that straight away as being harshly cleaned. They want more money for it as well, 11K plus...
