You're pulling SBAs from circulation? I don't think I have EVER seen one in circulation.

They're out there. When I worked at the bank I would see them nearly everyday. I think most people grab them when they see them...and for that reason they seem uncommon. Plus, people just don't like dollar coins. But, they are out there.

I use them but SBA's are rare.

They're not that rare. I seriously saw at least one almost everyday I worked at the bank. I worked there for a year ending last August. They might be a little less common...but they are far from rare. I only saw a couple 1981s (and never saw a 1999)...but 1979 and 1980 were easy.

If you can find some good examples, I'd work something out with you.

I would, but unfortunately I don't work there anymore. I left the bank when I started dental school a few months ago.

Smart move considering current economic situation.

When I go to my local coin store I usually park in the garage across the street. I put a 5 in the machine and get 3 1 dollar coins in change. I have gotten several SBA's in change, but they were all so beat up I skipped keeping them.

if they do I don't think they'll ever see the light of day with all the congressional mandates on the presidential coins. In fact, I think the mint will likely remove them from circulation.

Do they still have Ikes? Is it possible to go to the Teasury and demand IKES?

You don't make much money in banking unless you ascend to high management...which takes years. Plus, I really didn't like selling people things they didn't need. Dentists make more money in less time...and you can do it completely honestly (and sadly many are dishonest anyway).

I don't know if you can "demand" them but I read in another forum that banks can still order them. They would be mixed and circulated.

As for the Susan B. you pictured it's a pretty decent coin. However, I would not classify these as particularly collectible in any circulated state.
Sure, you may not run across them often but work in a shop for a while and you see so many it makes your head spin.

Problem is that people hoarded these like just about any other dollar coin since the Ike. We see Ikes, Susan B.'s, Sacagaweas, BiCentennial quarters and halves and now even Presidential dollars walking in the door on a regular basis.

Unless they're in original rolls or really nice Ikes we tell people to spend them. We have no buyers.

We were recently afforded the opportunity to dump 2800 Washington Dollars at $1.20 each and believe me we did. All BU coins but just taking up space as it were.

It comes down to this basically. Most of us here are coin collectors. Others are hoarders with no clue. There are hoards of these coins out there. In the long run it severely dilutes any real collector value.

You make excellent points and I pull out good examples of SBA's as I would Nickels and Dimes. We spend quite a few of them here in the city, and I see them often in circulation but they are on the decline.

And your right, they are hoarded like BiCentential Quarters, 1917 Type I SLQ's, 1857 Flying Eagle Cents, and Type 1 Buffalo Nickels.

I still like them and pluk some out of circulation when one catches my eye. In fact i plucked a quater out of my change this morning and my daughter loved it. If they never have market value, that is oK. I have a lot of comic books with little value a well.

That being said, I think your underestimating the collectability of SBA's specifically in the near future, say in the next 15 years. They are getting old and the stock is going to have to be destroyed with the ridicules mandates of the Presidentail Dollars. And they will become rarer. As it is, 60-80's quarters and dimes are getting attention. And any decent IKE at this point I think is a keeper. Iks don't circulate at all any longer.

How would I go about getting IKEs from the bank?
