25c bicentennial error or damage?

Hi Folks!
Can anyone please tell me if this is a coin damaged somehow after minting or is missing clad layer plus a hard life? Why does the rim look so naked? It weighs 4.8 GM's. Thank you for your wisdom!

Someone put it in acid that burned the copper core but not the clad layering on the outside.

 

Sometimes coins buried in the ground or in a water environment (fountain?) turn color and get a thinner copper core from the acidic ground/water - but the coin does look burned

Definitely damaged

 

Yeah this one looks like an extremely long bath in thourea. Even the sulfates dried in rings.
Environmental damage.

Yeah, that's what my gut was telling too. But I HAD to find out for sure. And you are quite welcome Inspector43, my Navy years were the best years of my life. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
