Domitian AE Sestertius Rome 80-81 CE (33mm 25.3g) Obv: Head laureate right; CAES DIVI AVG VESP F DOMITIANVS COS VII Rev: SC in field; SPES standing left with flower. RIC: 298 [TITVS] With the exception of my Dattari plate coin, this coin is the only one I have for Domitian that is not silver. I liked the look of it and the price was right so... Vespasian as DIVVS AR Denarius 80-81 CE (19mm 3.10g) Obv: Head Laureate right; DIVVS AVGVSTVS VESPASIANVS Rev: EX across field; Victory advancing left placing shield on trophy; Judea standing left. RIC 364 [TITVS] I only had one DIVI issue for Vespasian and this one will fix that problem. Not a great coin condition wise but for 50.00 or so I will take it. Traian (98-117 AD). AR Denarius (18mm 3.30g) RIC 245 I have bypassed this type a few times before. I really like the reverse and it has a nice portrait and for around 20.00 I will gladly accept it into my collection. The condition is lacking of course but to me that does not matter. I wold rather by this one with nice style than pay over 200.00 for one in better condition but with worse style.
Nice pick ups! I was watching a handful of lots, but totally forgot to check in on them. Just as well - only a couple went for a price that I would have bid to win on them. I really need to get some more Flavian types!
Nice pickups @Orfew, the RIC 364 ticks several boxes for me: the unusual horizontal reverse legend, and Judea mourning on the reverse. I am also a fan of the Trajan ARABIA with camel - although I struggle to see camel, with hind legs out of sight it looks more like a long legged goose to me. This one a different variant without the exergue legend ARAB ADQ (Arabia Adquisita - Arabia acquired): Trajan, AD 98-117, AR denarius, Rome mint, struck circa AD 110 Obv: Laureate bust right, slight drapery Rev: Arabia standing left, holding branch and bundle of cinnamon sticks; camel at feet to left Ref: RIC II 142 and I can't resist including a coin of "Arabia Felix" before being "acquired": Arabia Felix, Himyarites, "RYDN" Royal Series, "'MDN BYN YNF" (Amdan Bayyin Yanaf), circa 80-100 AD, AR Scyphate Quinarius Obv: Male head right within torc Rev: "'MDNIBYN" around, "RYDN" in exergue, small head right; "sceptre" symbol before; YNF monogram behind.
I think you hang around to much with @David Atherton . You're a member of the same sect now. Not a Flavian! I.m really worried about you Mr.Andrew. Are you OK ?
Nice additions @Orfew! It's hard to find good bargains these days... :-( Here's my Trajan by the way:
