There are only 2 reasons I know of that would make you say that today. Either you like low grades or you are a complete liberal. The first of those was true when I went and I assume still is. The second has become true since I left.
Nothing that profound. I went to school to be an engineer and ended up a hotel manager. Cornell school of hotel management is awesome. Lehigh is a party school for all the rich kids that couldn't make it into an Ivy League and some standout public school kids like myself. I hated it. I partied in my teens and was over it by the time I got to college and the school was ridiculously hard, average GPA 2.7.
Let's just say I graduated and it only took 4 years. As for party school, I was over 18 back then, and that was the drinking age. I seriously doubt that there were many (any?) other schools could hold a glass to us.
Gonna have to tell a little story here I think. Back in 2000 I bought a roll of ASE's. Took every one of 'em out and put them in an Air-Tite. Then I took all of those Air-Tites and put them in a Tupperware bowl. Then I put that bowl in my bottom dresser drawer. Had another bowl full of 2000 Sackys right beside it. Now a year later I looked at those coins. The Sackys were just like the day they came out of the mint rolls. But the ASE's, about half of them had a ring of translucent purple all the way around on both sides. A year after that, there was another ring of translucent purple just inside the first. And year after that there was a third. The coins were drop dead gorgeous, much like Lehigh's coin only purple with a white silver center. Sold every one of them at a coin show in Vegas. So it can happen folks and it is quite real.
Not ever really sure why you would ask such a question. I did everything I could to prevent toning from occuring - but it did anyway. So how could that possibly be considered as artificial - by anybody ?
What he did was well known before he did it. Someone posts on the CU forum that the sky is blue and it'd generate 200 posts and a dozen side threads about this amazing discovery. If done in less obvious ways, the toning won't scream AT and can be a small enhancement to selling the coin in the slab.
didn't say it was intentional..... you put it in a case and in 2 years they toned from contact with something. So I was just asking.... Ruben
Got the coin in the mail today. Check out my photos. The toning is less vibrant that the seller's photos make it appear. My photos are a more accurate representation of the actual appearance of the coin. It is absolutely striking in hand and the photos don't really do it justice. Now here comes the question. Do I crack it out? :smile
Ahhhh - looks much more like what I described. If not for the date, I would have to wonder if it were one of mine. I wouldn't crack it. Just store it properly and keep an eye on it.
If you leave it in I would assume it will continue to tone regardless of how it was stored? (that's a question) If you crossed to PCGS or NGC would it stop? - You have experience in this matter. When I look at that fully toned ASE you posted in another thread - I think I like this one much better. The gold across the entire coin does not appeal to me but the rings of toning do. So I guess it's a matter of what you like.
