I ordered the 2020 silver proof set the day it was offered. Received it in a relatively short time period. The coins were amazing as all modern proof sets usually are. However after removing the bonus nickel and entering it my set, I noticed the cent coin had a chocolate colored fingerprint on the obverse from the device to the field. What a surprise. I contacted the mint and was given the 7day return policy speech. As I had removed the reverse proof nickel,no return was possible. Maybe an error collector wants something like this.
Fingerprints aren't an error! I'd send it back if I could! Too bad you cant. It is possible to clean it off, but that's probably just as bad.
No way you can send it back. Fingerprints are damage not errors. All you can do is order another set and check it the day you receive it.
If you can't return it, maybe try acetone bath to see if it can be removed. If it has been there awhile, it will be there forever, but if not, you might be able to remove it. If you can't send it back, it's worth a try.
Quite possibly, an option most supreme.......Over time the oils have time to 'etch' into the metal, but by the grace of God you may save the day with the above mentioned undertaking......
Thanks for the response, I think I will get another set and keep the damaged one for a conversation starter.
Just buy a proof single in the aftermarket and swap it for the one in the set, No need to buy another whole set. The sets aren't sealed so just make the swap.
