New to this forum. I apologize if this has been a topic before. I recently purchased (4) ASE from a private seller consisting of (1) 1986 and (3) 1987. I noticed that the weights of these were slightly higher than some 2019 that I purchased from JM Bullion. The weights are shown in the pictures. Any input would be appreciated on whether or not the 1986 and 1987 are authentic, based upon weight.
The official weight of ASE's is 31.103 grams. The weights you describe seem to be withing an acceptable tolerance range for production of the coins. I do not know if the mint publishes the weight tolerance variation for ASEs.
Thank you. I wasn’t sure if there was an acceptable +/- tolerance. I am trying to determine if I should purchase more coins from this particular private seller. As you can see, here are the weights. 1986 (Private seller)- 31.429 1987 (Private seller)- 31.581 1987 (Private seller)- 31.676 1987 (Private seller)- 31.749 2019 (JM Bullion)- 31.147 2019 (JM Bullion)- 31.336
Here is some on another on another website: https://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=77503 Looks like, on average, older ones tend to be a little heavier if I had to draw a conclusion from this small dataset.
Thank you for this information. I am new to collecting and want to make sure I am headed in the right direction.
