Just wondering if this would be considered mechanical doubling, die fatique doubling, die polishing or perhaps some other type of common doubling. I guessing mechanical. 2005 P Nickel EPU. photo of regular to compare. Found about 10 or so in a roll all pretty much identical. Just want to make sure I mark the 1 example that I put away correctly. Do the coins show any markers that would lead you to believe that it was fatigue? Are other letters more thick than they should be? Or any die cracks or breaks?

Is the doubling incuse or raised?

From what I can tell the rest of the coin appears normal. No cracks, breaks or the such and all other lettering seems normal. Thanks. MM

From what I can tell it appears to be raised, but I'll be honest in stating I'm not 100% sure. Here are 2 200x pics that may help. Thanks. MM

Oh Yeah, Don't forget to check out the man in the shuttle (Florida Qtr) in the main coin forum. A pretty cool (and weird) fill error of some type. MM

It could be either mechanical doubling, die deterioration doubling, or a combination of the two.

I would say that I agree with our resident expert Mr. Diamond. I had a 1971 lincoln cent with the same type of doubling and I was told it was die fatigue doubling.
