Weight and size matter, and the number at 12 O'clock position on reverse indicates year of mintage. It would be handy to be able to read the Arabic script as well. I can only read the numerals.

Quite possible. I have the numerals down. I have an Excel document that I use to translate AH. It comes up with 1277=1860. I added 8 and came up with 1868 but guess my logic was off. Maybe should have just added 7 with 1277 being year 1?



There are also times that I just get lazy and use the date provided by the seller without checking.

Running with 1917, I'll take us to British Newfoundland. Or is it New Foundland? I have this catalogued as a 1917-C 25 cents (KM 17).
