Keeping Pocket Change

Based all on about 3 seconds of close observation I'll often pluck a coin from change and put it in my medicine vial for my collection. I have quite a few of these now and I thought I'd look at some of the quarters I've been hording.

So I photo'ed some of them and here they are some picks? These are mostly recent quarters..

This is the Ohio Quarter - two D mints and worth looking at. I like this design but it has some problems, especially the very low relief.

This is the Iawo coin which I seem to have gotten a lot of nice examples in change over the years.

grades? I think its interesting to see what grades can be gotten from pocket change.

You never look over your change an pull someting out?

I look at EVERY coin I receive in change. I only keep coins that are worth more than face value or have something odd about them (e.g., an error).

State Quarters found in circulation will never be worth more than 25 cents in our lifetime (unless they are a rare error, e.g., Wisconsin).

 

I don't look at collecting as an investment stratergy. I do have coins that I've pocketed years ago which evidently are now rather rare and worth something.

If you don't pull strong coins examles out of circulation your closing off a whole area of enjoyment

I agree. I find it fun to pull pocket change and try to fill some harris folders. And I am always checking to see which one looks nicer.

 

You'd be surprised what you find that you collected 15 years later.

I have a lot of red 60's and 70's cents

I don't have a lot of red, but I have only been doing this since earlier this year. I know I pulled 1974 and 1960 D I think from the penny jar.
