I have posted 5 different PCGS graded 1883-CC Morgan Dollars in MS66. Please guess which (if any) have been assigned a green sticker by the CAC. BTW, the Numismedia Wholesale value of this coin is $810. After everyone votes, I will reveal the results as well as the prices realized by each lot. COIN 1 COIN 2 COIN 3 COIN 4 COIN 5 Feel free to comment on any of these coins as well.
I voted for number 4 also. Looks to be the most choice example of the lot, and the cheek is quite clean. Very nice coins!! Are are any of them in your collection? Phoenix
#4 should be stickered. By the way, are #2,#3 & #4 Better VAM's? Looks like a dash under the second 8.
LOL - wheres the who cares pick? I like 3 and 4 the best based off the pictures - and I don't care if they have a CAC sticker. Put little smiley faces and send them on to me. This should be interesting - people here are grading off pictures, while CAC at least has the coin in hand.
I'd say 4, although I think CAC is a complete farce. They are still graders just like the ones at PCGS, NGC, etc. Its our own fault though. Those of us who buy them at a MUCH higher price, for a freakin sticker!
4 would be my first choice. Coin 1 looks okay except the lighting is too bright to really see it. The die crack is cool.
I don't see it as being #4 for these reasons. The main hot spots are the cheek and the area in front of where Lady Libery is looking. The cheek is fine, but the area infront of her face is pretty nicked. There looks to be 2-3 carbon spots on the coin, and also, the back of the head has a good many luster breaks. Speedy
I picked 4 earlier because it looks the cleanest of the bunch. Not perfect, but you would have to look at a good many Morgans to find one with a reverse and cheek, that were that clean. I'd be very surprised if that one wasn't stickered as a firm 66. They may have put a sticker on #1 as well. I'm not for sure on that one but I am pretty sure that not all of these got the sticker. And, truth be told, without knowing which ones got the sticker, I would also suspect that #4 would sell at a higher premium over the rest. I can't wait to hear the answer.
That's why CAC is ok , it's too hard to grade from pictures , if you trust in CACs grading you can buy the coin knowing it's at least solid for the grade and maybe better , of course this is only for coins that you can't see in hand . rzage
#4 looks like a 65, all the rest should be graded as 64's IMHO. The TPG's are really getting bad And if CAC stickered any of those as a 66 - they aren't any better.
I voted for one...but I didn't say that I agreed with the grade that was listed. Like Doug...I don't see any of these as 66's. Speedy
I know this will seem like I'm just agreeing after the fact but I have to agree with you. I was thinking the same thing as I was looking at them. I have a couple 64s that don't look much different than some of these. Gradeflation for CC dollars I suspect.
