rlm, you thought your guy was bad! http://cgi.ebay.com/Replica-1901-O-BARBER-DIME-COPY_W0QQitemZ250328705308QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item250328705308&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 Can anyone imagine trying to make a living posting auctions for 0.10, replica Barber dimes? Is there really a demand? Now read the description. Would you trust this guy to correctly copy down your address onto an envelope? I wouldn't. I suspect this is a front for a real counterfeiting outfit. Sad that people would support this jerk.
I read that 3 times and I am still not sure what he is saying except that he is looking for you - "I hope to know every coin buyers"
They pretty much do prohibit all replicas; The problem is that they only enforce that on item that have been reported. If no one reports it, it sells and they are none the wiser.
LOL, wow. :thumb: His english is quite poor, except for this one part it does seem to get better IMHO: Still not great, but better than the rest of the description in my opinion. I honestly wonder if he is trying to put us on with the poor english? That's funny. :thumb: Phoenix
And, is he confessing to be a counterfieter here? Now if he puts replica on them, and tries to sell them as that, that's fine. But still, it makes me quite leary to be honest. Phoenix
I think they are looking for some one to buy them without the replica on them - then sell them as legitimate. There are so many replica auctions lately I have started putting -replica -copy in my searchs. Of course I have only bought 1 coin off ebay in about 4 months - it was graded. Getting real scary.
The seller of the above coin has done nothing wrong. All of his coins are stamped in English that the coins are reproductions. This seller is listing some high-quality reproductions which is nice because it makes being able to fill some of those key-date holes possible. I know they are not real but darnit, I just can't afford an authentic 1895 plain Morgan or an authentic 1877 Indian Head Cent in these trying times. Now, if only the rules would be changed so that the coins no longer had to be stamped on the obverse or reverse that they are fake but on the edge. This would make reproductions to me much more appealing seeing as how distracting the stampings on the front or back are.
That depends on how technical you want to get. "The listing must clearly state that it is a "reproduction," "replica" or "copy" in both the title and description." Definitely, it is in his title, but I dare you to show me anything that is clearly stated in his description.
You're insane. All that will do is make it easier for a seller (someday after you and I are loooong gone) to pass the coin off as a real one to an unsuspecting buyer. All this does is help scare people away from the hobby, which only serves to drive down values.
Bingo! That's exactly how I read it. This replica business is likely only a front. It isn't too hard for them to leave that replica stamp off. And when you look at the replicas he's trying to sell, the theory that "such and such low value coin would be too cheap to try to counterfeit" is out the window. Now, how good are they in hand, I wouldn't know. But if you'll notice, he does mention making them in 0.90 silver and to the proper weight. This operation should in all likelihood be taken down.
Hi, The pictures of the british coins show poor quality, can not judge on the others. I order a "5 Franc - Belgian" coin, just to see the quality. The replicas look all exactly the same (same weak spots). Only the date is different. I just hope that people beginning to collect coins, do not fall for these "replicas" as real coins. There are a few ebay members on ebay who sell these as real
you bet , notice how he says he also sells silver coins that meet the standard , and call him to discuss prices , probably to sell silver coins without the replica stamp . rzage
I want all of you to please leave this seller alone (IE--no reporting to ebay, no harrassing emails, etc.). I want to order some of this seller's coins to see how nice they are in hand. I wrote the seller and he says that all of his coins are shipped with replica stamped onto them and seeing as how I want them for my Whitman albums, I will be ordering only coins that are stamped on the back. Yes, he uses silver in some of his replica's but darnit--that is for improved quality over pewter. Some of his replica's look terrible but some look very nice in the pictures. I just can NOT afford an authentic 1877 IHC, 1909S Lincoln cent etc. so please don't ruin it for me and others by trying to get him shutdown.
