Got stuck late at work last night and while the day was decent for finds considering it's during a 'Coin Shrotage':

    - 1964 Silver Dime
    - 40's Wheat Cent
    - 1978 Bermuda Pig Cent
    - 2002 Czech Republic 1 Koruna

I was ready to go home after being stuck there two hours after clock out time helping out. Right as I was about to head out for the night a customer comes in... They gotta have their smokes, all they have is change... Fine, change is good you never know what might be in it right? Well I'm glad I stayed...

I saw the big coin and thought 'Oh neat, another Ike for the collection...' and said 'Oh a Dollar' customer then replied 'Yeah ain't it neat? Think I can upgrade from pall malls to newports?'

    Imagine my utter amazement when:

Not a bad night, got some other side finds (Sorry Dime, you got sidelined) and a 90% Silver dollar for a dollar...

    Thanks Coin Shortage...

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

    Can you take better pics?

    Something about it feels off.

Why would someone spend something like that - unless its a counterfeit.

Yeah I can add more pics, my phone isn't the best though. I had the very same suspicions myself and while I do not own a scale so I couldn't weigh it (Yet) it's the correct diameter, thickness, it's not magnetic and it sounds right (When you let it drop on a table or tap two coins together)... But I know I truly need to weigh it at some point...

(Here we see it properly fits the holders made for large dollars as a way to show it meets the correct dimensions requirement of 38.0mm width and 2.4mm depth)

I did lightly clean it off with an alcohol pad and using my thumbnail to get the dirt out of the reeds when I noticed that the grime on it basically just wiped right off... I guess it was just picked up from being in her bag of change...

Seeing as how I'm more interested in the Silver value than the numismatic value of it very lightly cleaning it with non-harsh alcohol and soap/water isn't an issue to me...

And if it is a fake... Well it's just a dollar...

For the sake of the update I gotta report that I got a scale in today and...

1924 Peace Dollar, bit of wear: 26.64 grams...
    1880 Morgan slick: 25.83 grams...
    (Both coins bought off APMEX)

The 1881 (AU) in question: 23.3 grams...
Welp at least it was only a dollar and not $40 dollars...

This was a good learning experience and kinda forced me to get a scale so going forward knowing the specifications and weights of coins with the ability to measure them should save me a bit of money...
