    A couple of new members of my tribe. :) I think you can see the scratches on the holder for the 1908. These have been two of the hardest coins to find in a grade where I liked the coin and the grade on the holder. Once again all comments on the coins are welcome. I would really like to see what people assign the grades and colors on the two coins.

    1908 = AU55 RB (great toning, though)
    1909 = MS64 and full-red all day long!

    Great coins.

    Hello,

    Wow, wonderful coins Marc!!

    As for a grade I would say 1908 MS60 RB & 1909 MS 62. I noticed the bag mark on the OBV, or I definitely would of went higher.

    Have to agree with some other members, the 1908 was awesome until I seen the 1909. My jaw literally dropped. beautiful coins!

    Regards,
    Stan

    Nice, no matter what.
    If I collected IHC's, that's the sort I'd want.

    The grades on the coins are 65-brown and 64 RB. I think the holder scratches and the darkness of the color probably made it too hard to see how clean and well struck that it is. The coin on the bottom the only substantial brown is right above the 09 in the hair. It almost looks like a shadow in the picture. On the reverse you can see just a touch of brown poking out around one cent. The 09's are especially noted for weak strike and to me this one does not show that. So two new additions for the tribe - only 6 more upgrades to go. The early 80's I expected to be toughies to find, but the 1994 and 1904 I thought would be easy. It is tough finding ones that I like now.

    guessing TPG grades from pics will make us all end up in the funny house....

    Nice coins Mark, maybe you should plan on a trip to LB, you can finish your set by winning them at the poker table from Rick;)

    I agree - you can only give the grade you think you see from the picture. So even an AU guess is possible.

    I check Ricks site all the time looking for some of the dates. Even Rick has problem getting ones I really like. Then when he does get one I want it is usually sold very quickly. And to top things off I am a bad poker player. :)

    I agree. :thumb: (I'll refrain from posting what I thought on grades, obviously I need more practice with these. ;))

    I would have gone a tad bit higher on the 1909 but the 1908 looks on the money! :thumb:

    You shouldn't worry about posting grades - it never hurts to give it a try, and all you can do is post what you think you see in the pictures. It is tough grading from pictures especially in the AU/MS range.

    And RichieB16 the 09 is really a RB coin. I agree with the TPG in this case on this coin. There is just enough brown poking throw to make it RB. Just like you when I first saw pictures of the coin I thought red, but in hand you can see the subtle brown especially on the reverse. I especially like these two coins.

    Thanks for all the comments.

    decisions decisions always decisions

    I'll guess that the 1908 got 64 brown. My second guess on the 1908 would probably be 63 RB.

    I'll guess that the 1909 got either 58RB or 63RB. The photo looks like there is some break in the luster in the field in front of the Indian. With luster break (circulation evidence) it might be an AU58. Without luster break, it could be a 63RB.

    Very best regards,

    Into the Dansco album. Then there is one in the dansco album, then they go into the harris album. So when all is said and done I will have three complete sets - well maybe. So once I get my upgrades done - the high grade set, then I will see what is needed on the dansco album. Then I will move to the harris folder. Well - that is the plan.
