Holy crud I want one of these...I saw one at the show the other week and I must have drooled buckets :D

Here is what one looks like in case you never seen one before:

Can you blame me though? Besides the Liberty Cap cents...the Flying Eagle is one of my favorite coins and to see that Eagle on a big ol dollar just made my day!

Guess how much it was? Yup the seller wanted $16,000.00 for this MS60...needless to say I let him put it back in the case while I cried. Ooooooh how I wish I could win the lottery I tell you :hammer:

Anyone here own one or know of someone who does? eBay sellers want $9,000.00 for one...but they are lower quality...methinks my current pennies and nickles and dimes will be sneaking away into a savings fund :goofer:

I've seen one, I always wanted one but a recent acquisition of a quarter and the need to replace a car mean it will have to wait a while.

    Beautiful coins IMO.

The proof Gobrecht dollar is beautiful to see in person. I've see them on display prior to auctions that I could never afford to bid. Here is my pseudo Gobrecht dollar collection of seven pieces.

    Very best regards,

Here is #6 & #7. Of course, the 1838 dated pieces are O mint. Note the large & small date styles on the 1837 pieces.

I've seen a couple of them and they are beautiful coins. I just love the eagle on the reverse. Maybe someday I'll add one to the "Richie Collection." :D

I've seen a fair number of them in a wide range of conditions, PF-6 to PF 64. I've never seen one I liked. Don't know why but the Gobrecht dollar has never impressed me. I just find the obv too empty, and the starry fields on the rev too cluttered. I think the obv with the stars as used from 1838 on is great, and I think the flying eagle on the empty fields is great. (The lettering keps the fields from being too empty.) But I don't think I've ever seen an 1838 or 39 in person, just all those 1836's.

Personally, I think the Gobrecht flying eagle design is the best eagle design of the 19th century. For now, I have to be content with the flying eagle cent, tho!

    Hello Skrilla,

Ask & ye shall receive. Here is a photo of the reverse. It was in the Eliasberg collection & now it is in mine.

I havent gotten a chance to start a collection of the Gobrecht Dollars yet. I still have to complete 16 other sets before I can think about starting these. Anyhow, I'd be happy just owning one.

Yes I know I'm in the minority on that, but to me it just looks unfinished. I think it looks much better with the stars. (and not as good with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA like they did in 1860 on the dimes and half dimes.)
