the much awaited coin is out today. ill be buying two today to round of 2008 who else is buying. i know joe will make a contrbution to the mint as well but who else? What are your thoughts for the series now?
Ok, pardon my ignorance. What is the "seated liberty FS" series? I've looked on the US Mint site and don't find this anywhere. I looked under commemoratives, special collectibles and a number of other categories, but I'm not seeing it. I thought I knew the coins the Mint was producing, but I've missed this one.
FS= First Spouse. From the US mint web site. "The Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005 contains a provision for the continuity of the First Spouse Coin Program in the event that a President served without a spouse. The provision calls for a gold coin to be issued bearing an obverse design emblematic of Liberty as represented on a United States coin issued during the President's period of service and a reverse image emblematic of themes of that President. This provision applies to Martin Van Buren.
Oh yeah.... :vanish: I'm not interested in the first spouse coins, so I had forgotten they would issue the coin with an obverse from a coin during the particular president's term in office.
I bought one Unc and one Proof. I think it's one of the most beautiful ones in the series. I don't know if I'm going to keep going, but I wasn't going to miss this one. I wonder what the low sales numbers are going to do to the future rarity value of these coins. Only the first 3 issues sold out. The rest are all still for sale by the mint.
I'm not getting one right now as I don't have the funding to do so, but I will eventually. I plan to put together a set of MS and Proof FS coins with the historical designs. I don't care for the actual spouse coins, but I really like the classic coin designs.
First Spouse Coins The Seated Liberty and Bust Half designs look sweet. I am seriously thinking about "breaking the budget" and figuring out a way to get at least one of each. I am also somewhat regretting not purchasing one of the Draped Bust designs (Jefferson) from last year.
I don't have the budget for gold but I did order the bronze medal version of "Van Buren's Liberty". I also picked up the "Jackson's Liberty" medal in the same order.
Sure, right after you send me my New Years gift....That is nice of you to send the 1913 Indian. In fact, you are getting the better of the two deals..... Im giving you a $20 gold piece and you will be giving me a $10 gold piece. So you will have $10 more!
Remember everyone, starting with the Madison FS coin, the mint did away with the 20,000 total mintage for each unc and proof - that is 40,000 total. Now the mintage is still limited to a total of 40,000 for each coin, but the numbers are determined by consumer purchases. For example, there could be 30,000 proofs and 10,000 uncs.
