Hey everyone, long time no see. First of all, i ahve missed being around here, the comraderie, the chats and ecspecially the coins. About 5 months ago, I moved out of my house and I am abotu to complete a relatively painless divorce from my wife of 8 years.

With change comes new requirements and I am downsizing a part of my collection to accomodate this change.

There lies my reason for this post. I have all of the proof sets from 1958 to 2007 (1999-2007 are silver) except for the 1997 Proof set.

What is the best way to sell this collection off?

Do i get the 1997 and sell it as a complete set from '58 to '07?

Do I split it up 3 ways? (i.e. 99-07 silver; '80-'98 silver and regular, minus the '97; and '58-'79)

Or do I break it up another way? Also, do I advertise here in the open section first, then list on ebay if needed or just go for the bay with an invite to the family here?

Thanks for the input and for listening to me ramble!:desk:

Right now prices for sets are in the toilet. I'd pick the best and sell 'em on ebay. Then sell the rest to a dealer and drown my sorrows.

Sorry to hear about your divorce. I myself am just about finalize my divorce (my ex-wife and I were married for 5 years). I wouldn't say the process was painless as the divorce settlement set me back about $4,000 (that's a lot when you're 23 and currently paying off $42,000 in school loans), but if there's one thing I'm thankful for, it's that I got to keep my collection. If you REALLY have to sell something, I'd do what GD suggested and sell only what you have to and make it your best set(s). If you can at all wait on selling, I probably would.

And I agree - DEFINITELY be sure to buy a bottle of something if you sell and drown some of those sorrows!

sorry to hear about your pain, sapper, but glad to have you back!

My advice would be to break it up into smaller sets then offer those sets on eBay with a reasonable starting price. If they don't sell, then dealer the rest, but by breaking them up you might entice a larger group of potential buyers. Once a lot of people on eBay start bidding, ANYTHING goes!!!

I want to thank everyone for their input so far. I guess it comes down to is the proof sets were mostly a collection my ex and I had started just as an addition of things to do. My heart is in the album collections I am working on, and not the proof sets.

mikenoodle, that is a great idea...I'll put them up as a "decades" collection....quick easy and no worries....

Now hopefully someone will decide to buy a 1960 to current collection for a loved numismatic family member lol

I would break them up and sell them individual on ebay , I think you would make a better profit that way,
