I just cant believe it, my current favourite detecting spot keeps yielding good stuff! Went out today, this time with the whole family for a walk really; my wife "allowed" me and my eldest only 30 minutes to search while they walked along. Here is what we found: We are going out to celebrate! cant wait until next weekend!
Oh wow, nice finds. And thats in 30 minutes of searching??? WOW What are the last 3, and what are the dates???
That is amazing. I am always so impressed with all the coins that you find. What is even more impressing is how you find all these grouped together. What do you think is the reason for that? Where do look again - on old walking paths?
I think I will get my detector out and start searching next week this gives me the incentive to get up and look around again. i live in upstate ny in the country and used to go out alot but i haven't recently but now i will. nice finds jazzcoins joe:mouth:
Darn? Well, if you're going to talk like that, maybe you should send them to me? I'll give them the appreciation they deserve. Lol, nice finds man, congrats!! :thumb: Phoenix
Thanks All, thanks Jazz (for the congrats picture). Yes, it has been pretty amazing detecting the last couple of months. Nothing really fantastic, or valuable, but lots of fun! Today I wanted to show my wife the spot where i found the Roman denarius a couple of weeks ago. My eldest and i just wandered off a few meters off the footpath, and there they were, this group of 5 silvers and a copper. They were pretty close together, but not in one spot. I guess a rider or a better well off wanderer lost them sometime around 1850. The two older coins are both 6 Kreuzer, one from Bavaria dated 1807, and the other one from Wuerttemberg, unfortunately with illegible date (but minted from 1808-1812). The other coins are 3 and 6 Kreuzers from Nassau and Hesse. One of them has some mint frost left. Here are some pictures of my sons digging them up. They were really happy, and so was I!
AMAZING. I always hope to find stuff like this on my hunts, but I never do = ( I live in an area that hasn't been around for so long, so it's kinda hard to get anything but some 70s-80s farm equipment. I always try to think in my mind "Ok, if I were a farmer, where would I drop my coins on accident??" lol, it keeps me going. Great finds!!!
You are stiring my urges to detect again. Unfortunately we have about 3 inches of snow on the ground right now. Olmanjon
Sketcher, Hello from a fellow Tennessean! Although Tennessee or the entire U.S. as a Country for that matter, has not been around as long as most other Countries, there are still some long buried coins and treasures to be found. Many farmers as well as well-off folks had a tendency to not trust Banks and they would bury money (mostly coins but sometimes paper money) around their' house. The most common spot was under a large tree which was close to and within easy sight of the Master bedroom. In this way, the person who buried the money, could lay in bed and keep a watch on it. Another area was inside a well one to two feet down on the side where they would remove one or more bricks, make a void to hold the money then put the bricks back into place. Since many homes or homesites can still be found in Tennessee that predate the Civil War, some of these give up great finds other than just coins.
