A friend has asked me to help ID a number of coins he acquired some years ago. Most I have cracked, but a few are giving me a headache - can you help? This appears to be Greek from the writing and is brass I believe. Measures about 20mm across and weighs 8g.
This is a type of Amisos, a city in Pontus. It shows the helmeted head of Ares, and a sheathed sword on reverse. Looking through the wildwinds page, there seem to be several similar types, perhaps you can match one: http://wildwinds.com/coins/greece/pontos/amisos/t.html I will say, however, the color and surface don't seem right on this one. I think it might be a modern reproduction.
