At a coin show yesterday I bought this double-tails nickel along with a few counterfeit coins. (See my other threads.) This coin should fool no one. Whoever made it did a poor job. The obverse of one nickel was hollowed out inside the the rim to make it like a pie pan. The other nickel had its obverse shaved off and the edges trimmed until it fit inside the other hollowed-out nickel. The problem is the obverse of the second nickel was not shaved down enough. When the two nickels were put together the second nickel sticks up above the rim of the first coin. I like this coin because it clearly demonstrates how a Magician's Coin is made (or rather how one is supposed to be made).
I keep fergitten 'bout them. I reckon I'll mosey on over to eBay and get this sucker listed!
don't forget: Unique! One of a Kind! Found by my Grandmother in 1928! Left to me in my Grandmother's coin collection! Found in Circulation in 1937! Unsearched rolls! or All of the above.
And don't forget to mention in the ebay auction that it could be a DDO but there is no obv to really tell by but in the estate this came from the 162 year old collector specialized in such rarities. It is a pretty crude job on that one btw. I have a few that are tough to see.
