Genuine ? Maybe. But the coin has issues, I'd never consider it.

Okay, here's a learning opportunity for me. :loud::secret:

Assuming it is genuine, overgraded, and perhaps dipped, what other issues do you see? I would consider a low bid for this if I thought it wasn't counterfeit.

If you look closely not only can you see that it was dipped, you can also see some traces of dip residue. The coin is heavily spotted and those spots stand a good chance of coming back.

Also, the coin has had some rough handling there appear to be numerous hairlines, hits & dings. Looks like light rub on both the obverse and reverse, which would cause to have an impaired Proof grade. And the reverse looks like it has had some light cleaning to boot which would result in a no grade or a genuine slab.

All of that is assuming it is genuine which I cannot say based on the pics. Add to that that the seller has no stated return policy and even the 20 ft pole would not be long enough.

Why do the dentils at 9oclock on the rev. look angled?

I believe that is just an artifact from the photos. It can occur due to the plastic slab distortion, or to the camera being slightly off axis. I think the coin is probably genuine, but with issues as noted by Doug. I wouldn't be a bidder, either.

    How is NTC at authentication?

Better than some, worse than others. Is it worth the chance ?

It depends on how high the bidding goes. It's a lottery ticket.

The bid is at $6.38. A low bid like that would be ok. I would not gamble strong money on it though.

I think the coin is probably real, but I don't think it's a proof, just a PL coin. This is a very early NTC slab.
