This is how I got my start with ancient coins. A generous CTer had a contest that I won and it included a bag of Roman coins. They weren't identified yet and, as of today, I'm still working on some of them. Although I don't post here as often as I did, my interest hasn't ebbed at all.

In fact, I picked up a coin just last week. A nice Caracalla.

I've tried to follow in the footsteps of the people here ever since Deacon Ray got me started.

This is one of only three internet based communities I've found that actually help beginners and aren't snippy with people for asking "dumb new guy/gal" questions.

Congrats on your score - and now your doomed! You won't ever get ancient coins out of your blood.

@hotwheelsearl Congrats man, on receiving such a nice lot. @tenbobbit, what a way to boost a fellow collector.

@hotwheelsearl If you get stuck and need help, this is the place to be. If you can narrow it down even a little then I would reach out to the folks who specialize in that area. I specialize in Septimius Severus, Julia Domna and Probus. I’ve gotten way better at Greek and Provincial coins so don’t be afraid to ask.

Awesome, thanks! I do have a couple Septimius provincials that are proving to be a bit tough... stay tuned
