Is there any explanation for the extreme detail and almost mirrored fields. I tried every which way I could to capture the mirrored affect but it’s hard to do. I’ve never seen such quality nickels before. These are nice steps examples with a high grade. Is there any possibility that a SMS could arise from Denver mint?

Those are some nice looking 64D's. Most in rolls and circulation have nice luster and descent eye appeal, but most have weak strikes.
The ones you have shown also have nice details.
5FS are 1-2000. Pcgs will still give the 5FS if any marks are considered to be in the planchet.
Some nice looking Jefferson's you got there.

All the 64SMS coins were found in the estate of a former mint director in the late 80s. None were found in circulation, and none were from Denver.

The dies, especially the reverse, are showing the signs of wear (flowlines in the field) and have probably been freshly repolished to reduce the lines. That can create the near mirror fields.

  9. Thank ya’ll for the comments I also got a nice 1962-D, and a bunch of 73D high grades out of this hoard. Here is a pic of the 62D which might get the 65 grade and full steps. It’s the nicest one I’ve found yet!

There was a 1964 sms set but not many were distributed. Maybe a dozen or two.

    Super nice coin!

  14. Thanks! I sent 8 of the 64D off with super strong strike and crossing my fingers on the 62D. I’ll let you know the grades and designations when I get them. I spent 275.00 bucks on 41 Rolls from different years and 2 of the 64D OBW rolls hit it big. I have another 6 of em I didn’t send off as I didn’t want to flood the population and hurt the value of it.

If you asked me I would say Denver’s coin seem to be to be better minted. SMS were the year of the no mint marks. If I’m correct that’s like 65. In 65 they changed coin materials. No silver for most coins. And if I’m correct? All mints used Philly Dies (I miss Kurt) So no to the SMS

  18. Yea I got feed back from a major coin guy out in Reno as he is sending in for me and he said the 8 of em were roughly 65 to 66’s and full steps. All I need is 1 to hit 66+ and it will be top pop! I will post results after I get them back. Thanks
