In my area, the only bank lobbies that have remained open are very scattered BofA banks. Now two of the four I frequent have signs saying "Our lobby is closed for reasons beyond our control". I can find no explanation online for this, is this happening in other parts of the country as well? I am in Maryland.

    I'm in MD too.
The lobbies of my dump banks have been closed since March.
My pick up bank lobbies are still open but that isn't super helpful since I need to off-load.

All lobbies in my area closed too. It's very possible that your BOA branches closed because a worker tested positive.

Our bank lobbies are open for the most part. I just ordered a box of halves yesterday. We'll see if they can come through for me.

Y'all can ship me your coins and I'll send you $$$. Haha. No, seriously!

I think it has to do with the masks. Can you imagine walking into a bank wearing a mask and saying to the teller, "I want you to give me some money"?

I do it every week. My pick up banks are perfectly fine. They only allow a few people in at a time. Otherwise, it's business as usual.
It did feel weird though the first few times haha.

I wear a baseball cap whenever I go out. My bank asked me to remove my cap whenever I enter the lobby so that their camera had a clear view of my face.

Yes, most Banks in Maryland Lobbies are closed, Freedom Bank Lobby is Appointment Only, also they will be stopping letting folk buy pennies, i'll miss pennies, hate the Idea of them being stopped, hope it makes the ones we have with errors and good dates, be worth more, guess by April 2022 the last batch will be made, if not sooner.

For my money, they can stop the zincolns any time they want without hurting my feelings. Shield cent is a loser. I wish they could take all the other Zincolns out of the ground while they're at it;)
My bank has a couple of the old tellers outside, letting people enter so there are I think two people at a time in the lobby. I dumped 154$ in metal detecting clad yesterday;) Didn't take the chewed up zincolns, of course.

Idaho banks opened their lobbies over two weeks ago. Perhaps they are trying to keep you safe or maybe it's the coin shortage. Good luck wear a mask!

My bank only does drive thru but if I call and make an appointment they'll let me in the breezeway. No one gets into the bank except the employees.

First question, why are some messages have the $ after the amount? I worked in accounting for over 35 years and I have never seen dollars reference with a suffix $.
Next, I bank a the North Carolina State Employees Credit Union (NCSECU) and they were closed for a short time, probably to figure out how they were going to deal with the virus. When they opened for business, they handled all transactions by way of the drive-in. They even had an employee outside helping. As a few mentioned, when the lobby was opened, an employee managed the door and only let a manageable few in at a time. I even was allowed in to take care of business with my Safe Deposit Box. However, when the lobby opened, there was no entry without a mask.

I really do think this is the root cause of the coin shortage in the US. Most banks are not welcoming people to come in to deposit coins. Maybe powers that be should do something about that instead of saying we need to stop using real money.

I would love it if there were a way to get access to a coin counter.
The grocery store coinstars shut down when everything kicked off too. No place for people to dump coin which means no coin going back into circulation.
